Battle Pack 2: War of the Giants was the very first set that I bought an entire box of. I liked the sealed play that the battle packs provided and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I didn’t really get that many cards I could use with my tournament decks. I believe Forbidden Dress was the only card I was really excited to pull.
Round 2 has some pretty good cards just from the little bit of information that we’ve been given. Ignoring all the other cards in the list and focusing only on the 5 Ultra Rare cards that have been confirmed, the set is already looking good. The biggest stand-out on the list for me is Number 11: Big Eye. I really want to get my hands on a few of those. Being able to steal an opponent’s monster with virtually no cost is simply too good to pass up. Plus, its a Rank 7 monster and those are pretty easy to make with the cards in the format right now.
The second stand-out is Safe Zone. Safe Zone is one of those cards that open up a whole lot of strategic combos. For example, many monsters with great effects have low attack to help balance them out. Put that monster on the field with Safe Zone and it becomes much more potent. Another cool combo is the “Key Beetle Lockdown”. The effects of Safe Zone and Number 66: Master Key Beetle are very powerful when combined. Safe Zone is one of those cards that I would definitely find a use for if I had one.
The third card from the list that I have an interest in is Dragunity Knight – Vajrayana. I know, I know, I’ve criticized Konami over and over for re-printing this card, only to ban Dragon Ravine. So why would I want it? Well, I am holding on to a tiny thread of hope that either A) Dragon Ravine will be given back to us next format (probably limited or semi-limited) or that B) a new Dragunity search card will be released in order to keep the Dragunity Archetype from ceasing to exist. Since my deck only has 2 copies at the moment, I would really like to get my hands on another.
The other two cards, Fog King and High Priestess of Prophecy, I wont really have a use for. I have no intention of playing a Prophecy deck and I can’t see where Fog King is all that impressive. The rest of the cards we’ll just have to wait and see on. According to the wiki the BP02 set will contain 313 cards, 98 of which will be added with Round 2. Round 2 packs will contain cards from both Battle Pack 2 and Round 2.
The release date for Round 2 is set for this month (January 17th) and I have to say I’m actually kind of excited. Shadow Specters left me wanting more, so maybe this will help fill the void.
What do you think of Battle Pack 2? Are you looking forward to this new addition or do you think its a waste of card stock? Personally I wish there was a Dracossack as one of those Ultra Rares, but overall it seems pretty decent.
