This was my first competitive deck. I did not build it alone. When I first showed up at my locals with a 60 card “deck” made from a Dragunity structure deck and my childhood Blue-Eyes deck, I was unsure what would happen. It turned out to be one of the best decks I could’ve brought with me.
As it turned out, one of the players at my locals was a Dragunity player; she quickly dismantled my deck and rebuilt it for me. She then gave me a list of cards I needed that covered an entire sheet of paper. I left with a much better understanding of how the game is played today. Even though the cards I needed would cost over $100, I remained optimistic.
The next day I pulled a Number 11: Big Eye (at the time this card was selling for over $100) from a booster pack. I immediately contacted the girl from my locals and asked if she was interested in trading. My fiance and I went to her place one day and I left with one less Big Eye and over half the cards I needed for my deck and a few for my fiance.
Over the next two months I gathered more of the cards I needed through trading and buying. Eventually, with the help of everyone at my locals, I put together what is considered a pretty decent deck. I still need a few cards but for now this is how it looks:

Comments:
I know some of this looks strange but I was working with what I had and was trying to spend as little as possible. There needs to be one more Phalanx and one more Vajrayana for sure, and possibly another Atum. My spell and trap choices were mostly directed at my local players. Feel free to comment on my build if you like. I always appreciate constructive criticism.
Even though it was a good deck (The girl who showed me how to run this deck was topping locals every week and even went to Nationals with hers) and I devoted months to practicing with it, it just wasn’t working for me. I won only 2 matches and lost at least 40. I have set the deck aside for now and moved on to other, slower decks. Hopefully one day I can pick it up again and find out all I needed was some more time to learn the game. Or maybe just a different meta to compete against . . .
In another post I’ll discuss how the Dragunity Tempest deck is supposed to work and give examples of some of the many combos that even a newb can do with it.
