I don’t know if its because regionals are next week or because of the new banlist, but today was the largest turnout at locals since I’ve been going. Unfortunately, we had to use the March banlist so I had to rebuild my deck when I got there. I wanted to use the September banlist to get some practice before regionals, but rules are rules and it doesn’t go into effect until tomorrow.
There were 12 of us that competed in the tournament. With twelve players, the tournament was 3 rounds and then it cut to the top 8 for elimination. I made it to the top 8. I was 2 and 1 after the first three matches and I finished 2 and 2. That was the best result I’ve had so far.
After the tournament was the fun part: Trading. Because there were people I had never met, they had cards I had not seen and I had some they needed. All in all I traded just over 30 cards away and got 25 back. It was the best day of trades I’ve had in a long time. Most of what I got were cards I needed or wanted, but some were just to make the trade totals come out the same.
Here’s what I came away with:
Spells:
3 – Mystical Space Typhoon
3 – Book of Moon
1 – Gold Sarcophagus
1 – A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon
Traps:
2 – Fiendish Chain
1 – Royal Decree
1 – Solemn Warning
1 – Mirror Force
1 – Dimensional Prison
Mosnters:
1 – Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon
1 – Gorz The Emissary of Darkness
1 – Exodius The Ultimate Forbidden Lord
2 – Hieratic Dragon of Su
Synchro:
1 – Blackwing Armed Wing
1 – Scrap Dragon
XYZ:
1 – Steelswarm Roach
1 – Photon Papilloperative
2 – Number 20: Giga-Brilliant
I’m trying to build a Hieratic deck so a lot of the stuff I got was for that. The rest of it will be dispersed among my current decks. The only big card I traded away was a Black Rose Dragon from my Dragunity deck. I figured that would be ok since I wasn’t really running the deck and didn’t do well with it when I did.
All in all I was very happy with how this evening went and I am very much looking forward to regionals next week.
